From a Primary Teacher
After 20 years of teaching, I was thrilled to come across a resource that targeted the needs of at-risk readers; something that was simple enough to help children figure out all those tricky sounds, and was easy for me to implement as an educator.
I used both Sound It Out! Practicing With Poems along with Sound It Out! Teacher's Guide and Sound It Out! Tiles to get struggling readers excited to learn. Students remembered the stories that went with each tile because they were funny and made sense to them. The children became detectives and eagerly looked for the sound blends everywhere! I loved that the poems reinforced the sounds and were just the right length. I was truly excited to see the growth and eagerness that students presented as they learned more and more. I will continue using Jenn's resources, as they are practical and simple. Thanks, Jenn! Carmelina Woods Grade 1 Teacher Kamloops School of the Arts |
From a parent
Our daughter, Taya, was struggling to learn to read. We were getting notes home and being called in for meetings and as parents were feeling like we had no idea what to do to help support her in learning the foundation that she was struggling to pick up through the regular classroom instruction.
I was feeling helpless and confused. We were doing everything at home that was being suggested, reading to her and having her read to us every day. When requesting ideas for how we could support her further, the same mantra came, “Read daily,” yet this wasn’t working.
In a desperate plea, I called Jenn and asked for her help. She shared all of the knowledge, strategies, tools, games, and activities that she shares in this book, and we implemented them daily. Soon, Taya was asking every day to read and play Bingo and Slap. She was beginning to master her sounds, and her confidence, abilities, and love for reading grew with each day.
As she learned a new sound, she would feel such pride. I no longer felt hopeless, because I had the tools and strategies to help her and it was working. Now, three months later, she has gone from not knowing all of her sounds and not being able to read to sounding out words like a champ and moving up in levels in school at a consistent rate.
Most importantly, she is enjoying reading and is grasping the concepts that Jenn so eloquently teaches in this book through her silly stories and fun games. Taya is a huge fan of repeating the silly stories to help her recall what the letters and blends say.
From a parent who has tried Jenn’s system, it works! With this resource, you’ll gain the confidence and knowledge to help your little one gain their own confidence and knowledge.
Thank you, Jenn, from the bottom of our hearts.
Love,
Your reading champions, Cheryl and Taya xoxo
