Quick REading and writing tips for home use
The more we connect reading, writing, and speaking, the more our young learners will start to transfer their skills.
Use names!
Successful readers can manipulate the sounds in words. Write out your child's name all in lowercase letters in large enough print to cut out. Cut apart each letter. Pull out letters to create new words. Kids love to see how many words their name can create! This also helps boost their writing abilities, too. |
Don't spend money on pencil grippers just yet!
Tie a rubber elastic onto your pencil for an inexpensive pencil gripper! This is great for little ones learning to grip their pencil in the correct space. The elastic provides the sensory reminder of where our fingers are supposed to be and it is small enough for little hands. Traditional grippers can be awkward and too large for little fingers. Elastics can accommodate different ways of holding pencils. |
